WORLD CUP SOCCER IS OVER, HERE COMES THE COMMONWEALTH GAMES! ©

ExerciseNow provides many sports on offer around Melbourne and parts of Victoria. Want to be part of any sporting experience, have a look and see what we recommend. You may like to join one of our sporting clubs that are available to give you an enjoyable and healthy experience.

What an experience the world cup soccer was this year, while many of the games were played at a time that most Australians were asleep, the final game between Germany and Argentina brought many people out of their beds to be part of television history on channel SBS and see Germany win the World cup final beating Argentina 1-0 in extra time. While Australia was knocked out in the group stage and not winning a game, we can look on the positive side and know the youngsters of the Australian side got the experience needed so when the next world cup comes around in 2018 in Russia, our young players would have matured; with many playing in the European or Asian leagues and have the world cup experience under their belts this will give Australia a better chance to advanced from the group stage in 2018.

There were a few shock results in the world cup such as Spain and Italy being knocked out in the group stage and Brazil being beaten by Germany 7-1 in the semi-final. Australia can take heart from these results and know that large soccer nations can faultier terribly during a big event. Also, Australia can take heart and see smaller soccer nations like Costa Rica who made strides reaching the quarter finals only to be beaten in a penalty shoot out 4-3 against the Netherlands.

With forward striker Tim Cahill kicking an extraordinary goal against the Netherlands in the second game of the group stage and his goal was voted by fans as 7th best in all goals scored in the world cup by soccer players, shows that we have skilled players to match the best in the world and Tim Cahill who plays for American Major League Soccer club New York Red Bulls and before that Everton in the Premier League in England, is no slouch when it comes to being one of a dozens of players internationally that would be chosen to play for most nations, he is a skilled player and the best of Australia’s strikers. With Australia having so much sporting talent and the world cup is over for another four years we now concentrate on the Commonwealth Games which are starting on the 23rd of July to 4th of August 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland. While our Australian athletes are settling in Scotland to prepare for the start of the games, we can be assured based on our past commonwealth experiences that Australia will do very well out of the 71 nations that will be part of the Commonwealth Games.

A great honour was bestowed on Cyclist, Anna Meares chosen to be the bearer of the Australian flag and lead the Australian team out into the Commonwealth Games Arena in front of tens of thousands of fans and millions watching around the world on their television. Many countries including Australia are sending their largest ever Commonwealth Games teams. With 71 participating nations at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and an estimated 6,500 athletes and officials in Glasgow, 600 of them Australian that includes 417 athletes, again Australians will be glued to their TV sets to see how many gold Australia can win in these Games, as I and the rest of the ExerciseNow team will be also, wishing our country the best of luck, ‘GO AUSTRALIA!!!’
