Bio: Established in 1981 the club quickly became prominent in competition and by the mid-eighties it had won its first Victorian Marathon Club Premiership. During the first decade, eight members were selected to represent Australia at World championships or Olympic Games.

The Geelong Canoe Club is located in the Kildare Ward of the Greater Geelong City Council, approximately 75km South West of Melbourne’s CBD. The Geelong Canoe Club is the only canoe club, located within the G21 Region, with the nearest clubs located in Ballarat, Warrnambool and Footscray.

MEMEBERSHIP AND USAGE:
The Geelong Canoe Club is utilised year round providing a home for paddle sports in the Region. The tenants and regular users of the Canoe Club and its facilities have evolved over recent years to include the provision of the following primary paddling sports:
• Canoe Polo
• Canoe Sprint
• Dragon Boat
• Outrigger Canoeing
• White Water Canoeing (including slalom and down river)
• Marathon Canoeing
• Recreational Canoeing / Touring
• Multi-sport and adventure sport
• Surf Ski paddling
• Ocean Ski paddling
• Sea Kayaking
• Ultra Marathon racing
• School based paddling (limited)
• Scout Group participation (limited)

The Geelong Canoe Club provides for a diverse range of participants including, males, females, seniors, juniors and education groups. The club has experienced an increase in demand for external use of the facilities to cater for local schools, scout groups, special needs groups and other education, community and sporting groups.

The Geelong Canoe Club has a first floor occupying approximately 25% of the building area. River access is located outside of the Geelong Canoe Club lease area and the existing river platform and landings are managed by the Corangamite Catchment Management Authority (CCMA). Accessible public toilets are located adjacent to the Club within the Balyang Sanctuary, and are open 24 hours per day.
