Bio: Aikido Melbourne is the representative of Aiki Kai Aikido in Melbourne and the state of Victoria in Australia.The National Aikido Association of Australia, Aiki Kai (Australia), was formed in 1965 under the direct authorisation of the Aikido founder Ueshiba Morihei. Its originator Sugano Shihan (8th Dan) was a direct student of O-Sensei. He was the head of Aiki-Kai in Australia.

Sugano Shihan personally appointed Linda Godfrey sensei (Yon Dan) to the role of Victorian Area Representative. She has overall responsibility for the State. Sugano Shihan also personally appointed Ray Oldman sensei (Roku Dan), Leon Metzeling sensei (Go Dan), Mark Matcott sensei (Yon Dan) and Michael Nagle sensei (Yon Dan) to the role of Assistant Area Representatives each of who oversee a key area of responsibility within the State.

Clifton Hill Dojo is the headquarters of Aikido in Victoria. Aikido classes are run there every day of the week. Most special days of training are held at the headquarters.

Classes consist of warming up exercises, basic movements that form the building blocks of Aikido, more advanced techniques, and some more playful exercises which assist with their skills development. The children their instructors and with other children and to learn how to trust each other and help each other.

The children learn respect for themselves and others, improves their confidence and self esteem,
heightened self-awareness, personal growth and character building, gain knowledge of self-defence techniques, learning effective ways of dealing with bullies and strangers, encourages teamwork, enhances balance, flexibility, coordination & physical fitness, assist in self discipline and making new friends

Provides instruction in a manner that is safe, responsible, and accountable with appropriate levels of understanding as to their legal and community obligations. Follow appropriate training standards for what constitutes safe practice in exercise.
Understand responsibilities under Occupational Health and Safety regulations. Understand responsibilities in dealing with complaints involving sexual harassment and discrimination in the martial arts industry.

Instructors have a current Working with Children (WWC) Check. All instructors have many years training in Aikido in addition they have broad experience with children because of their background as School teachers, Sport Coach or Parents.
